My first class experience…

I had my first class experience today with Intermediate level. First, I started the class with a warm up activity and I gave students a lyric of a song in which they had to underline all the infinitive verbs that were there. After that, I check students‘ answer, and then we sang the song.

I taught the grammar part about gerunds and infinitives and I also provided students a lot of examples. I used some charts to explain the information so that they could understand better the topic.

After that, I developed some written exercises in order that they could practice more about it. First, I gave them a reading in which they had to underline the infinitive verb or the gerund. Then, I made a fill in the blank activity. At the end, I developed a speaking activity and they discuss some questions related to the topic.

In generally, I really liked this group because most of them were paying attention and they also participated a lot. And In the feedback the teacher told me that she liked the meaningful activity that I presented as a warm up in which students practiced about infinitives. She also liked the way I explained the grammar notes and the way I monitored students. At the end, she told me that my confidence level is great, but I need to be a little bit more active or enthusiastic; and It is kind of difficult for me because my personality is like that and I get pretty serious when I teach, but I am going to try to be a little bit different.

  2. Hi Vero, one of the activities that I enjoy using the most is for sure lyrics, not only for the chance the Ss have finding new vocabulary, but also for the chance the group have to sing a song together....really nice!!! as you mentioned, filling the blanck as practice is really useful and at the end you can check easily who has problems with the grammar part, and who is ready to go beyond!!! Congrats!!!! ;)

  3. Hi my friend Verito!
It is always good to have music in class and sing, but is even better when you use it to practice grammar. In my opinion, music always brings joy to the class.
In regard with your personality, you are a very likeable and gentle person who is kind of serious but who also gives a warm greeting and the confidence one needs to talk to you, which is what ss need to feel comfortable in class. I have had some teachers who are serious, but who also have given me the confidence I need to feel comfortable in their class and to ask them any doubt.
It was a nice class, congratsss..

  4. Hi Vero!!
Songs are very useful in a class and at the same time it helps you to practice different topics. It’s nice that you used a song at the beginning of the class. It´s nice to see that you enjoyed your class.
